Description

Great Lakes Lowland Sampler from the Canadian Journey Series.  Smell the flowers, hear the birds, and savor the fresh fruits and vegetables that abound in the dappled sunshine. The sampler contains 37 bands, done in a palette of DMC and over-dyed silks. Many “specialty” stitches are used – there are diagrams and written instructions for all of them, making this design approachable – if you have patience (and Google), your initial skill level with specialty stitches will not be important.

Each band is described both in terms of how to execute the stitches, and in its significance or symbolism to the sampler as a whole. Jeannette includes wonderfully interesting tidbits of science, history and lore behind each subject. You will feel the fragrant life of this region flowing through your veins as you stitch this delightful design. As Jeannette says,

Each row held so many memories for me. How I savour each berry picked, how I am charmed by the antique shopping and how awe-struck I continue to be by the roar of the falls. Growing up in Southern Ontario, first on a dairy farm and then on an acreage, I have seen the immense diversity of this area firsthand.
